Gracias a nuestro patrocinador Postermedia, hemos podido lanzar nuestra primera campaña publicitaria.

Now they must be viewed. All of them. Despite the skepticals, we must see them all. It’s an odd sensation. All these deeveedee’s and boxes… IN this “escalatable” mountain of envelopes and bags, IS the entire Festival… like Mozart with the notes: “The notes (the films) are all there… just have to put them in the right order.” Now, a gratuitous, second and rather nerdy metaphore: As the neutrinos… it’s a mystery where they are exactly (the films), but they HAVE to be there.
Am I in a privileged position? Yes… indeed I am. And it’s only thanks to you filmmaker, residing in the five continents at the same time. In reciprocity, I shall try fiercely to make you feel equally fortunate. To all: thank you for your participation. Good luck!

It’s over now. The first stage of the Monterrey International Film Festival has concluded with a huge pile of packets that have arrived from the five continents. From all the courier service companies. All of them. Nepal, Colima, Argentina, Mexico, Indonesia, Portugal, Saltillo, Ethiopia, South Corea, San Nicolás de los Garza… you name it! I try to imagine the traffic that any Film Festival generates in the world… this process of sending your film, expensive or low budget, to a Festival near home or one very far away from it. It’s the first step to an honest yet sophisticated understanding between different and distant cultures… or between two identical cultures in the same coordenates… or between a person and itself.

Nineteen hundred hours, Friday, May 28th, 2010. Call for entries closure. As is natural, more than one distracted local filmmaker runs at 250 km/h dodging cars in the middle of Monterrey downtown, calling the Programmer to beg for a forty-second extension of the call for entries. Granted. The enthusiast film buff gets here, sweating, and with a very solid non-verbal ethic question: “You wouldn’t have the heart to not select my film after running this much to give it to you more-or-less on time… would you?”

The coveted Cabritos de Plata are ready. These are the awards that will given to the winning films in competition and personalities honored for their outstanding film career during this 5th Monterrey International Film Festival.
ART21 STUDIO was the company in charge of manufacturing the official award and presented the finished pieces that will be sought by films competing from the five continents.

The start date for the Monterrey International Film Festival is drawing near and one of the top things that get the production team motivated is the arrival of our films in competition. The first one to arrive this year was Mika Kaurismaki’s “Three Wise Men”.
Every visit from the courier is received by anxious anticipation at the office and for this first arrival you can see it flourish on our Programming Director’s smile as he opened the box that contained the six reels of the finnish film.
The bets are on among the festival crewmembers as to which film will arrive next. Some are even calculating distances between countries and continents, let alone customs bureaucracy. So every time the courier comes through the door, inevitably heads will turn in expectation.

Saturday, June 27th, four o’clock in the afternoon… everything ready in our offices for our first meeting with the volunteers of this great event.
To be honest, we were a lil’ bit nervous, but the volunteers exceeded our expectations.
At the end, the result was great. The meeting had a lil’ bit of everything, from the presentation of the staff and volunteers’ testimonials of past editions, to claps and laughs… lots of laughs.
We have no doubt we are ready to begin the adventure.

Yesterday we went “scouting” to one of our official venues: MMCinemas Leones. Scouting is nothing else than exploring to gain information.
The appointment was early in the morning. Maybe many of you have never been on an empty theater, is a very fun experience.
We were taking pictures to check out space details, and we also visited the projection booth… specially since there are films that will not be projected on 35mm and for us is very important that you have the best experience, when you come to the Festival and see the films.

Speaking about projection, not many of us have got the chance to see how a 35mm projector is, here is a pic. Is not as full of glamour as some could imagine, but it definitely makes it possible for us to know wonderful stories, see great images and discover different cultures and imaginary worlds.
Coming soon… the publication of our official film selection.
