For the director of FICUNAM, one of the responsibilities they have when leading a festival is that they offer noncommercial products that seek to «open dialogue» offering balanced programs of what offers the film world from its diverse latitudes.
In that sense, Saed highlighted the importance of lending screens to products that might never see the light.
“We are an important space for filmmakers who have no space, have no place in commercial film. We project content that if not for the festivals, it will never reach the screens,» Saed said.
But beyond a simple screening, they pointed out hat they have to be attentive to the social changes, to complicated issues and to generate a cultural value for the country.
However, some obstacles surround the celebration of festivals such as the lack of public policies that facilitate the realization of them, as well as the economic expense to pay the rights of the films.
“There are a lot of films that I’d love to take to the Tutelar, the Cereso, take them to Galeana and everywhere, but I can’t afford them; that’s where you have to adapt. The theme of the subtitles, you have to adapt…” said the programming director of MIFF.
That is why they recommended make alliances with embassies and diplomatic representation of countries to serve as intermediaries between filmmakers from other countries and national festivals, as well as seeking sponsorship from the private initiative.
