The 2017 Monterrey International Film Festival announced its opening movie. For this edition, the FIC Monterrey has selected The beguiled, the most recent film by Sofia Coppola, that awarded her the Palme d’or in Cannes 2017.
The 91 minute thriller will be premiered in Mexico –as the opening film for FIC Monterrey– on August 24, in the Great Hall of Teatro de la Ciudad de Monterrey, in collaboration with Universal Pictures.
The beguiled is a fascinating drama, directed and adapted by Sofia Coppola from Thomas Cullinan’s novel. The story stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and Colin Farrell. It unfolds during the US Civil War, in a southern boarding school for girls, where the women found a wounded enemy soldier. They take him in and while they tend to his wounds, the house gets filled with sexual tension, dangerous rivalry and taboos that get torn down in an unexpected twist.
The screenwriter and director got an Oscar in 2003 for the film Lost in translation, she was also nominated as Best Director, the third woman in achieving this.
Through our website and social media, we will be announcing all the details about the Opening Gala.
