The work of the production design department in cinema:
Perhaps one of the most important jobs in the field, as production design ensures the correct creation of sets according to the story and script.
What makes it so important?
Production design goes beyond just creating sets, as it also involves detailed decoration. For example, let’s say we have a story about a messy student in their apartment building. The job of production design is to provide that information to the audience through props and the set; placing props like disorganized clothes on the student’s bed, filling the kitchen with dirty dishes, and placing textbooks on the study table in the living room, etc.
In this way, information about the character is communicated, which is much more valuable to show on screen than having the character telling it to us.
